Situated where the Cheshire Plain meets the High Peak, the village of Mellor and its Golf Club are steeped in history, and the course is well known as one of Cheshire’s ‘Hidden Gems of Golf’.
In 1745 John Wesley, the famous Methodist Minister, stood on what is now the 10th fairway and described the view that stretched before him as "Paradise".
Over 100 years later the first holes were laid out on the very same land and Mellor Golf Club was born in 1894.
We are privileged to be able to play golf on one of the most scenic of courses; lying on the western hills of the Pennines where Derbyshire and Cheshire meet, Mellor is an interesting mixture of moorland and parkland golf. Magnificent views across the Cheshire Plain and Derbyshire Hills serve as a backdrop for a course to test the skills of all golfers at all levels.
During its 100 plus year history the club has been resident in three counties, Derbyshire, Greater Manchester and finally Cheshire where it has remained ever since.
The great traditions of Mellor and the qualities of its golf course are perfectly complemented by the friendliness of its membership. Mellor prides itself on making new members and visitors feel at home and when you enter the clubhouse there is a warmth that many other clubs find hard to achieve.
There is a strong competitive spirit in the club and all our men, ladies and juniors are involved in inter-club competitions at local and national levels.
We are very proud of what Mellor has achieved in its hundred plus year history and whether you are a new member, a guest or a visitor, we are sure you will enjoy the Mellor experience.
The Townscliffe Golf Club across the valley, adjacent to Mellor Church, joined with Mellor in 1925 and in accordance with a promise made to the members at that time Mellor and Townscliffe Golf Club was soon extended to 18 holes.
