Mellor & Townscliffe has many golfing opportunities for senior golfers of all abilities, inclinations and ages with welcoming and friendly social scenes before and after play. New members and members entering retirement can join various ‘roll-up’ competitions without arranging a partner as all the playing groups are drawn before play.
The Monday ‘Seniors’ play a mixture of 15 and 18 hole competitions and the Thursday ‘Vets’ play 12 hole competitions and fun competitions. The sign up for both closes for a draw at 11.15. The ‘Early Birds’ sign up for a draw at 08.00 to play 18 holes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and the ‘Teachers’ (not now confined to that profession) also play 18 holes at 14.00 (or 11.00 in winter) on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The seniors play friendly and league matches at home and away against other local clubs in the summer. Any senior can enter on the lists on the senior notice board. There is a small fee as there is a lunch provided after the match.
There are seven senior trophy competitions, mainly on Thursdays, plus an annual knockout competition and an Open competition.
Seniors who join the club as six day members can maintain their handicaps through qualifying 18 hole competitions with the Mondays ‘Seniors’.
