What a great year of achievement.
Junior Captain Oliver Stonehouse received his sweater from 2019 Captain Graham Davenport. With Oliver then posing in his new sweater. Goes on to receive the putting competition first prize from 2019 President Mark Rowden. Then to cap this with a hole in one on the eleventh.
Oliver has been a great Junior Captain playing excellent golf, not only in the Junior Competitions, but also in the Pro’s Saturday Competitions with the rest of the members.
He is a great example of what a Junior Captain should be in both his golfing ability and his demeanour in and around the club.
He has also been selected to captain the junior team for 2020 and we all wish him well for the coming season.
Taking 2nd place on Mr Presidents Day is Thomas Russell. Thomas has improved not only in his golf but in his approach to the game and the 2020 season will no doubt see him improving even further
In third place on Mr Presidents Day Nat Dando whose golf has improved immensely this season.
Nat will be another player whose competitive edge will see him winning more competitions in 2020
In addition to the 18-hole competitions we run is the Twelve Hole Competition for all our young golfers to take part in on their way to playing 18 holes. One of those rising stars is Sol Barlow whose attendance at the junior competitions is exemplary. Here he is winning the 12-hole competition on Mr Presidents Day to the Juniors
Whilst we have a somewhat depleted team of junior golfers and a complete lack of you lady golfers our team our boys give a good account of themselves and with Luke Dando, Jack Birchenough, JoJo Mills, Digby Evans, Felix Kemp, Adam Stonehouse, Thomas Logan, Ted Brooks and Harry Wyatt we have a strong number of contenders for the next 18 hole competitions.

It is a new beginners golf format to help new participants learn to play golf for the first time
Golf Sixes is a National Competition for junior golfers without handicaps or with a handicap of 36 or higher and is organised and run by The Golf Foundation.
Golf Access is a new golf development business that offers new customers an exciting and unique experience by allowing beginners to learn the game on the course rather than solely on a driving range. There are 9 levels to get through and takes a participant from complete beginner to a standard of play to obtain a handicap and join a golf club. www.golfaccess.co.uk
Mellor & Townscliffe Golf Club has been awarded GolfMark (incorporating Sport England’s Clubmark) and SafeGolf, our brand new accreditation demonstrating commitment to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, as well as adults at risk in the sport of golf.
My first year as Junior Organiser and I would like to start by thanking Ian Jones for all his hard work over the past years. His enthusiasm and dedication produced a very competent and successful team. Many of those players have now left us as they reached the point at which they are no longer Juniors.
I know I have an uphill struggle to achieve the successes Ian’s teams reached given that we have so few playing members with handicaps to enter competitions. However, I am delighted with the members we currently have, and we are seeing progress.
The Junior Committee have been a very supportive and I would like to thank you all for the work you have done thus far.
We have had a great Junior Captain in Oliver Stonehouse who has led from the front all season with great results in his personal game as well as in competition.
As you all know we have been unable to select a new Junior Captain for next year as no one has come forward. To that end I am delighted to tell you that Oliver has once more stepped up and accepted a further year.
On behalf of the Junior Committee and Junior members I say thank you. However, we will require a new Junior Captain for 2021 which means a Junior Vice-Captain to work alongside Oliver.
I will be producing guidance notes for a Junior Captain which will cover the role of Junior Vice-Captain. Something we have never produced in the past
We are extremely lucky to have the full support of the members of Mellor and Townscliffe Golf Club and those members readily provide financial should we ever need it, they provide prizes for some of the competitions too.
Mr Captain, Lady Captain and the Vice Captains put on special days and provide prizes for those events. It is therefore important and matter of etiquette that we all turn out for these occasions and make it a great day not only for them but also for you as competitors.
The Junior Captains Day is also a great event in which all junior members are expected to compete and to show their support for their Junior Captain. Alongside his 18 hole competition I will be organising 12 and 7 hole competitions which will qualify for prizes donated by members and myself.
A huge thanks to Carl Cross our PGA professional who has worked extremely hard in building his Passport and Golf Access programme. He informs me that there will be a couple of additions to our team next season and I hope you will all welcome them and assist them in their goal of playing 18 holes of competition golf.
In conclusion I would like to thank my team of volunteers without whom we could not have achieved our targets for 2019, thank you all.
Club members are also key to junior golf success and your contributions have helped immensely, thank you to both the men’s and the ladies sections for your unstinting support.
Captains and Presidents of Mellor & Townscliffe Golf club, thank you on behalf of all my junior golfers, parents and my team for your contributions in presenting your individual and joint competitions to the juniors throughout 2019. Your financial contributions have enabled us to purchase new team shirts for the Junior Derbyshire & Cheshire Team.
