First things first, Zoe and Martin - the club’s stewards and caterers - took superb care of us from start to finish. You’d be surprised how many decisions there are to make in the lead up to a wedding, but Zoe patiently helped us with each one; from guest numbers, to room layout, to the order of the day. She gave us the benefit of her experience, but was always led by our vision. Nothing was too big of an ask and she had every detail covered.
In that same spirit, the club’s chef - worked with us in shaping the menu. He cooked us some sample dishes several weeks before the big day, and we even got to taste a selection of wines to make sure the ones we picked were to our liking. Not everywhere offers that kind of personal touch.
The venue itself has rural surroundings and an ideal-sized main function room in which we held the ceremony. White wall, table and chair coverings were provided - beyond that it's a blank canvas and really up to you what you do with the space. From the balcony we had an impressive view overlooking the course and got great light throughout the afternoon.
After the ceremony, we retired outside to the decking area where there was a manned bottle bar and some jugs of Pimms waiting for us. It was the ideal space for mingling - and was covered, just in case it rained! The course itself provided the perfect backdrop for our wedding photos - from the magenta rhododendrons to the sun-dappled woods.
While we were catching up with friends and family, Zoe and the team quickly converted the main function room into the wedding breakfast space. We had 75 guests dine comfortably. I’m still not sure how Martin managed to deliver that many perfectly cooked portions of crusted cod in such a short space of time. And I lost count of how many people complimented the amaretto creme brûlée desert. The evening buffet was spot on too - Martin even made a vegan alternative for ‘that one guest’ we forgot about! The rest of the team were attentive and worked invisibly in the background all night.
Ours was a perfect day - one we’d relive over and over again if we could. We’ll forever be indebted to Zoe, Martin and the team at Mellor for making it possible.
